Someone tried to use my credit card with transactions costing more than $1,600. Thankfully, Bank of America noticed the suspicious transactions and did not allow it to go through. When I asked the Bank of America associate, she said it seems like the person had an actual credit card and it wasn't online transactions. So, he/she somehow made a copy of my card. It's scary thinking about it. Who is that person? How did he/she made a copy of my card? I wonder when he/she got a hold of my credit card information. This makes me not want to use cards anymore. Cash is safer, right?

This past week has been interesting.
Earlier this week, my friend, Daniel, messaged me and asked me whether my family were alright from the earthquake. Since I'm at the other end of the world, I didn't know that a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit West Sumatra. My hometown, Padang, has recently been constantly attacked by multiple earthquakes. Last year around the same time, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake destroyed the city and much of its occupants. After hearing the news, I quickly checked the news online and texted my family members. Since it was late night there, none of them replied. I couldn't wait for an answer so I messaged my other cousins who are abroad and maybe they have some contact with our family in Padang. Thankfully, they informed me that everyone is safe. However, what I didn't realized was the impact of the earthquake. There was a small tsunami as a result of it and volcano eruptions. Even though my family members are fine, more than 500 people are missing.

Thoughts went running to my head. How would I feel or react if I found out that something bad happened to my family? Will I cry? Will I be angry at God? I just don't know. I hope I would never know.

Just as the title of the post. Hopefully, this is my last skincare buy for 2010. I ran out of eye cream, so I was looking for something wonderful to try. Looked around the whole mall and finally decided to get the Estee Lauder set (US$50). It is a good deal for that price. Comes with a facial foam, serum, moisturizer and eye cream. Estee Lauder @ Nordstrom is having an offer, with $50 spent comes the gifts. The gifts include facial foam, toner, night serum, moisturizer, lipsticks and eyeshadow. I'm so happy with the buy! I can't wait to try everything...

The last year of my MBA program.
My class load is really light this quarter. Technically, I'm registered for three classes. But I only need to do coursework for two of the classes - Health care Accounting and Organizational Behavior. My internship is going slow. Supposed to start on a new project regarding an implementation of a new program but something is holding it back. Hopefully I will start on a project soon.

I almost couldn't walk this summer for graduation because of the stupid way the MBA program is set up. The LLU School of Public Health only allows student to participate in June Graduation if they have 8 or less credits to take that summer. I had 10 credits to take during summer quarter. But was able to convince my MBA program director to make exceptions. It's going to be a tough Spring quarter since I would be taking a class in which the content I have not covered, but I believe I can do it.

My family is planning a trip to Hawaii for Christmas break. So, I am looking forward to that. 8 days of ALOHA-ness!

Bridal Shower & Bachelorette Party

Bridal shower and Bachelorette party done! Rehearsal is this Thursday and the big day is Sunday.

Last week was crazy!!! I seriously also passed out..

For the Bridal Shower, 60 people were invited but many did not RSVP so we did not know how many people to expect. Since my brother, Jonathan, wanted to cook instead of order out, there was much preparation to be done. The kitchen and I spent some quality time together. I was in there for more than 6 hours, excluding cleaning. At the end, everything worked out and everyone had fun. That is all that matters. But I won't be stepping into the kitchen anytime soon.

Bachelorette party was FUN!! We all went to San Diego. I should not indulge the details here but the memories will be remembered for a lifetime. Girl bonding time... All the single ladies...

Not forgetting the Cambodian Ceremony. Roeum had to change into 5 different outfits. The outfits were meticulous to put on and each outfit requires at least 20 minutes. She looked so beautiful in each one of them. It was interesting to see how different culture have special ceremony. For example, there was one part of the ceremony where the elders "cut" the groom and bride's hair. It symbolizes the couple grooming for their wedding day. Also, we threw some sort of rice(grain) at them at the end.

Today presented the marketing plan to a senior VP of Loma Linda University Medical Centre, Michael Jackson. He is in-charge of the East Campus. Nicole and I were supposed to start at 9am but didn't end up seeing him till half an hour later. Due to his tight schedule, we had to condense our presentation. A little nervous at first but as soon as we started everything flowed smoothly. Got a little tongue tied at the end but I don't think anybody noticed too much.
Since Mara, our boss, has been bragging about us to him, so we had to live up to his expectations. He was impressed by the presentation and conveyed his appreciations. He added that if he was a professor and could give us a score it would be 10/10. Nicole and I was surprisingly shocked. What a good way to start a day :)

Time is slowing down

3 weeks down, 7 more weeks to go. I don't know how I can survive the classes this summer. It's painfully boring! The healthcare law class which I was looking forward to is disappointing. The only thing I've learned so far is, "Don't lie." Basically, it is like the ethics class all over again.

Work has been slow because we are still trying to do the final touches to the marketing plan. Really want to be done with it. We don't know what to expect when we present it to the VPs.

After coming back from Indonesia/Singapore, I find myself in a rather funky mood. Wish time could fast forward to September.

Beauty Buy Blah

The highly raved MUFE HD foundation. I was looking forward to using this but I was sourly disappointed. The main reason I bought it was to use it for special occasions where lots of pictures would be taken.

The Good:
- Sheer
- Lightweight
- Natural
- Has a large range of colors
- Comes with a pump
- Plastic bottle easy to travel with

The Bad:
- Too natural
- Not enough coverage even though it is supposedly to have medium to full coverage. It does not cover my dark spots or redness even when I tried to build coverage.
- Does not lasts long
- Need to use a finishing powder to set it

I really wanted to love it. But it's not worth the $40 price tag.

Back from Asia

Came back from Indonesia & Singapore late sunday night. How was the trip?I'll skip the boring details and just move on to the most exciting part.

Arrived in Jakarta Thursday afternoon for Akong's Suprise 80th birthday party. My Akong is not a big fan of big parties and celebrations involving himself. At first I thought the party would just involve the family, but turned out there were over 100 people there. Considering that there is already +/- 20 grandchildren. It's been a while since all the cousins were re-united so we chatted noisily. Our uncles and aunts kept coming to our area to tell us how they can hear our chatters from the other end of the restaurant. As usual, the Gunawan cousins are always on the highest decibels.

Saturday was D-Day! Morning was the church ceremony. The pastor was entertaining, he touched on important topics but kept it light-hearted. Towards the end, when my cousin, Ko Hendry and his bride, Ce Maggie, hugged their parents, they started tearing up. Everyone at the church cried - Akong, all the Aunties, some of the Uncles and also the cousins. It was a touching moment.

Then next was the tea ceremony. We were excitedly waiting for the hong paos that Ko Hendry was going to give to us. Before handing it out to us he said, "Don't be disappointed ah.. It's symbolic only." We were "Wow-ing" and making jokes about wanting some of the gifts when he and Ce Maggie received the jeweleries from the grandparents, parents and other relatives.

At night was the reception. It was held at the biggest ballroom in Jakarta, if my sources are true. Two words to describe it "crowded" and "bazaar-like". They were expecting 3,000 guests but my dad said that more than that came. It felt like I was in an award show of some sort. It did not feel like a wedding. The reason why I described it as bazaar-like is because the ballroom had booths with various food such as Peking Duck, Bali Mixed Rice, Pasta Bar, Chicken Mushroom Soup, Wellington Beef and etc. There were long lines everywhere. My poor cousin and Ce Maggie had to stand on stage for hours to shake hands with the guests. I believe they were doing so for more than 2 hours. It must be so tiring.

I'm glad I decided to go home to attend Akong's 80th birthday party and Ko Hen's Wedding. Sacrificing a week of school and work is definitely worth it.

SU Cleansing Oil

This duo for normal to combination skin is sold exclusively online at Sephora. Since I've been starting to use sunscreen, I've noticed that my usual cleanser doesn't remove all traces of it. Double cleansing, first with a cleansing oil and then with a cleanser, is supposed to help make sure all traces of makeup and any junk on the face are washed away. We'll see whether these little bottles will work wonders on my skin.

We won 2ND place!!! It not bad at all since we did not expect it at all. LLU hasn't taken part in this bowl for 2-3 years, so it's good to come back with a BANG especially since we were on home ground. Might I add that we also won cash prize. More $$ for my summer trip to Bahamas :)

My third week of internship is almost done.
Even though it may be difficult for me to get out of bed at 6 in the morning, being at work is enjoyable. I love experiencing the hospital environment, learning new things everyday.

It's way past mid-April. I can't wait for June to come. Made up my mind to go back for my cousin, Ko Henry, wedding. I will have to skip a week of class and work but it is worth it. Won't want to miss out on this. My rationale is that Akong and Ama are getting older everyday so it would mean alot for them to have the family come together.

This is where I've been working for the past two days. It's small compared to the main medical center but it has its own strengths.

Everything is fresh and exciting. This week has been by far been one of the most productive period of 2010. The work days passed by so quickly because we don't have much idle time. We meet so many new faces. The staffs and patients there are so friendly and positive, such an ideal work environment to be in.

So, my intern partner and I have 3 supervisors to report to. Because we are assisting with 3 different departments - outpatient, rehab and inpatient. Can you imagine the amount of work we are going to have? But I have no complaints; walking around the hospital you realized how blessed you are!

So spring break is practically over and I'm swimming through the third quarter of my MBA program.

After waiting not so patiently for months, I finally met the people in-charge of my internship. We discussed on what we are going to do. Two things that need our attention urgently are the proposal of a marketing plan and helping out with the accreditation process. Those are great responsibilities for us management associates. But I am up for the challenge!

Our MBA program director, Steve Serrao, also requires us to put in a bare minimum of 20 hours a week. So I've set my schedule to have work on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. My days start bright and early at 8am, and ends at either 4 or 5pm. I don't know how I am going to wake up and get to Loma Linda by 8am, I haven't woken up that early since my summer at Rosario. This is going to be a much busier quarter. Besides my internship, I'm also taking 3 classes. That doesn't give me as much time on weekdays to be a bum. How sad! My routine of being lazy is going to be changed for the better now.

ACHE College Bowl

So, I'm officially on board for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) College Bowl which will be held on April 30. It's a competition on healthcare related topics such as strategic planning, quality management, HR, healthcare law, healthcare finance, OB, healthcare information technology, healthcare delivery system and marketing.

Each participating school has one group that consists of 4 members including a captain and a sub. Two of my members are second-year MBA students while Komal and I are first-year.

The grand prize is $1,500. Even though the monetary incentive is nice, but more importantly, the experience will be invaluable. This will be a great opportunity to meet other healthcare management students and see how well Loma Linda University (LLU) fare compared to other schools.

3rd month of the year is here. I'm excited that time passes by like a bullet train.
Last week, we set the dates and plans for Bahamas trip. This past summer, I posted a blog about Bahamas. I can't believe I'm going to be there soon.
Winda and I also did some serious planning about Roeum's bridal shower and bachelorette party. I won't spill the details here because it is supposed to be a secret. Check back in a few months for pictures.
While I was in Vegas, Winda and I went window shopping and saw so many nice things to buy. I wish I was working already and don't feel guilty about spending money. My wish list just keeps getting longer. *sigh* So far, I only got one down.

After months of waiting with uncertainty, the verdict is out. My MBA program director, Professor Serrao, emailed me yesterday evening letting me know that I received an internship position at Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus. It will start in mid March. One of my classmates, Nimet, also got the position. So we get to work together on management projects. Yeah, I'm doing something with my life.
I need to be more motivated and productive this quarter. Even though all my classes have been going well, I feel that I'm not putting in my all.

Went to Nogales today for dinner and grocery shopping. Happen to see a cosmetic store, Amore, I read about online. I've been wanting to try Laneige, a Korean brand, skin care products. Read many reviews online and people have been raving about it. The model for the brand also happens to be my favorite Korean actress, Song Hye Gyo. So that did convince me a tiny winny bit more. I'm so happy that I bought it. Can you tell from the pictures? It's a reward to myself for suffering through the mid-terms last week. Can't wait to try it out but I have to finish using up my current products. The lady at the store also gave lots of samples for my sister and I, so that's a bonus. Sorry, if I bore you, I just love trying new beauty products.

The dress above maybe the bridesmaids' dress for my friends' wedding (Leo & Rum's) in August. We've been looking for bridesmaids' dresses since the endof November. Finally, we narrowed it down to this cobalt, knee-length, tube dress. Elegant and yet flattering on women of various shapes. However, the decision hasn't been finalized yet. The bride-to-be, Rum, still has to hear back from all nine of her bridesmaids. Oh my...

Their nuptial is the first wedding that I'm actively participating in. I'm excited beyond words and want to do my part to be a good bridesmaid. That includes planning a bridal shower and bachlorette party. There are so many details that go into planning such celebrations. I love planning events so it would be a delight!

My presentation on R&D in the Biotechnology Industry went well last Thursday. I practiced numerous times to make sure I stayed within the time limit which was 8 minutes. I was a little nervous while presenting but one of my classmates commented on how I did not seemed nervous at all. Practicing countless times definitely helped.
The class started at 5pm and we were supposed to end at 10pm. Altogether, there were 27 presenters. One of my classmates, Yoshi, calculated that we won't be able to end on-time and that we would be there till 12 midnight. I doubted him, since I thought the professors will make sure everything was done in a timely manner. However, I was dead wrong. We were there till 11:30pm! I was so bored that I went on Msn Messenger and Facebook. It was unfair of me to do that to the other presenters but I couldn't just sit there and listen anymore. My head wanted to explode!

My parents and my sister, Merissa, arrived here on Sunday. We've spent our time shopping and eating. We also visited Dr & Mrs Watson at Thousand Oaks yesterday. They are the same as always, so warm and giving. They are such a God-loving people. I really admire all the work they've done for God.

Tomorrow we are going to my parents' friend's house for a Christmas party. There is supposed to be 50-60 people. We'll see what happens....Stay tuned..

Roeum and Leo officially got engaged today. We were all there to witnessed it at beautiful Laguna Beach. I'm so happy for them. They deserve to be with each other. Can't wait for the wedding!

Last Friday, Roeum and a few of us girls went to Fashion District to look for bridesmaids' dresses. We found a few dresses that we like, but Roeum still hasn't decided which one she wants. But she is going with either cobalt or marine blue.

After shopping, we went to eat at a Japanese/Korean place in Rowland Height. The ahjumma serving us thought I was Korean. Haha! I think it because I keep nodding/bowing my head to thank her when she served us. I've watched too much k-dramas and tend to follow their gestures.

Done with my only exam final! Only a presentation and paper left.
I wish it was Thursday night already. I will be so relieved by then.

2NE1 Birthday

For those of you that forgot, yesterday was my 21st birthday.

A few weeks ago, I told my friends that I did not want a huge celebration. My wonderful friends however decided to throw a surprise party especially for me. Usually, I'm pretty sharp and know when they are planning surprises. But this time, I was totally out of it. Glad for it though! It makes the surprise even better. This is how the story goes.
Winda texted me on Friday to ask whether I could meet her for Sabbath lunch. She said that Roeum and Leo had some church thing to do so they will meet us afterward, I wasn't suspicious about it at all. First, Winda picked me up and distracted me by going to Sephora. My family members were all at home saying that they will meet up with us later. My sister, Maydina, even said she couldn't go out to eat because she had to study for tests. So after shopping at Sephora, we headed back to Winda's house to meet up with Roeum and Leo. I saw the house lights on so I innocently asked her who was at home and she responded that natalie was home alone; and that her parents were away for the weekend. She even commented on how her neighbors parked everywhere because she thought I noticed other people's cars. When she opened her front door, she shoved me in and I was surprised to see everyone there. It was wonderful to see everyone there.

On Monday, I received a bracelet from an old friend, Joy. She sent it all the way from Australia. I was so touched by her thoughtfulness that I almost tear up. It made my day.

Thanksgiving break went by too fast. I wish it was longer! Anyway, here is a picture of our feast (dessert not included). Our dinner started at 9pm because we started cooking late and some of the food such as the turkey and lasagna took forever to be ready. Supposed to be a family thing but turned out winda, rum and leo were off. So they came by and stayed over. It was fun!

In less than an hour, it will be December already. That means I will be officially 21 soon! I've been telling my sister, Maydina, that I feel old.

For Lucinda's 21st birthday last week, we had a birthday party at her house followed by a trip to LA. Dropped Maydina off with Aryton & Priscilla. I haven't seen my crazy cousin for more than 2 years. It was good to see her but we didn't have enough time to catch up. We should definitely meet again.

Today is the first day of Thanksgiving break. We bought a turkey for dinner tomorrow. It will be our first attempt at cooking it. Hopely it tastes good. We're going to have a non-traditional thanksgiving meal. We have turkey, lasagna, gravy, pumpkin pie, stir-fry veggie, bbq beef, ma po tofu and rice. I will upload pictures of the feast. Started off the weekend with a delicious Indonesian lunch cooked by Winda's mom and then a trip to Disneyland for Winda's 25th birthday. The last time I went to Disneyland & California Park Adventure was in December 2005, however there was not much changes in the rides and shows. Since our trip coincided with the first day of the holiday, the decorations were festive.
The firework show was the BEST I've ever seen. The whole sky was lighted up so brightly with colors and shapes. It was inspiring. We even enjoyed "snowfall" after the firework show.

Some pictures taken in Santa Monica on Saturday. It was my first time there and I enjoyed myself. I will definitely like to go back there.

Took the seasonal flu shot on Monday because it is required for my school. The next morning I found my arm with a slight red bump. It felt sore when I touched it. The person that administered the shot said that my arm will be sore for 1-2 days but I didn't realized the area will flare up. I'm just seeing what happens tomorrow.

Late nights have ruined my sleep cycle. Recently, I can't fall sleep before 2am and will not wake up before 12 noon. A bad habit! This is what two days of classes have done to me.

Wedding bells are in the air. Now, a few of my friends are thinking of tying the knot or are planning their dream wedding. I'm happy and excited for them which also got me thinking about my future.

Some of you have heard me say that I don't wish to be married before the age of 30. That gives me a little more than 9 years to do whatever that is on my list. I'm turning 21 next month! Whenever my birthday is around the corner, I fall into a deep chain of thoughts. I find myself questioning whether I will enjoy my future career.

Arrived home from las vegas at around 9pm last night. It was a fabulous weekend with the girls plus the token guy, leo. Altogether, there were nine of us. There was too much fun and less than enough sleep.
I'm suprised about how easy it is for girls to get into clubs. We got into two famous clubs in Vegas, Tao and XS, without paying anything. For guys, they have to pay at least $30 to get in.
I want to share more stories about this weekend but I'm afraid I have to study for my stats test.

Ko Henry called last week to asked whether Ko Tatan and I can go to his wedding. It is going to be held in Jakarta on June 26, 2010. But Ko Tatan and I have summer school. Mine starts on June 21 till Sep 3, so I don't think I can go. Unless I leave Thursday after class and come back Monday afternoon. A weekend trip to halfway across the world. That is insane, isn't it? We'll see what my parents say. The grandparents wants everyone to be together for sure, and I really want to go. If I can't go, I will miss out on all the fun. I have been waiting so long for this. *sigh*

Done with my third week of fall quarter.

Had a great weekend! Friday was my rest day since I was feeling sick. Supposed to meet Stephainepoo but ended up sleeping till 3pm, I slept for more than 12 hours. Saturday had a lunch potluck with walla walla friends. The last time I've seen some of them was graduation weekend. We did karaoke and played board games. After that, meet up with Lucinda and other people at Sanamluang for late dinner. Laughed alot until the other tables were staring at us. But we were not at all embarrassed.

Looking forward for another week of classes before the weekend. This upcoming weekend, I'm going to Vegas for Angie's 21st birthday. I'm excited! We've been talking about this since spring quarter.

1st week of graduate school

First week of graduate school is over.
I only had orientation and 3 classes this week. The classes that I am taking this quarter: Statistic, Business Communication and Health care Delivery Systems. So far, the most interesting one is health care delivery systems since it is a totally new subject for me. B-comm and Stats are standard business class, so it's a little boring. My classes consists of people from various backgrounds. Some are doctors, dentist and some administrators that have been working in the health care industry for years. Every one is bringing their own experiences to the table which is great for me. I'm excited about what the future brings.

I wonder how my life would look like if it was a movie. Will it be interesting enough for anyone to watch? Will the audience be on the edge of their seats; holding their breaths for me? How will the audience think of the main character?

In movies, the characters' lives are always full of excitements but I can't say the same for myself. I wish I was more adventurous.
Anyone that has lost a loved one knows that life is simply unpredictable. We worry about the tiny unimportant details in our lives and forget to enjoy each precious moment.

Last night, I was looking through my secondary (high) school yearbooks. Many regrets passed my mind. I try to recall the excuses I have given for those possibilities; but none were significant enough to leave an imprint in my head.

Tomorrow is a gift from God.

We took family portrait last sunday before Merissa left for thailand. The girls had to go there earlier to get our make-up and hair done. As usual, I was first. The make-up looked really heavy in reality with the false eyelashes and double eyelids; and at first I didn't like it. But it looked great in the pictures. After my sisters were done with their makeup and hair, we went to the studio to take sisters' pictures. The photographer was a funny man in his late 30s with a very heavy Chinese accent. He told us how to pose so as to look better in the pictures. Such as "Neck out, chin down. Arms apart. Not press to tightly on body."
Then he made me take an individual shot. Some of the poses were awkward but I got more comfortable after a while. All of sudden, he decides to take out a giant fan. My younger sisters said, "Wow", very exaggeratedly. I kept closing my eyes in the pictures. He was very patient with us though.
Even though it took almost 4 hours, the family pictures turned out nicely, I really like it. I wish I could upload for you guys to see but it is not ready till 3 weeks time, by which I will be in the States. So till next time.

My hair is jet black after 6 months of being a ginger. The color is way darker than my actual hair color. I selected a dark brown shade but it came out darker than on the sample. I'm not used to having my hair this dark. The plus side is that it looks healthier.
I decided to dye it before the US embassy interview tomorrow to look more "serious".

We're going to take family portrait this sunday. The last time we took it was more than 4 years ago after ce ping ping's engagement. We'll see show it goes. I don't have anything to wear so that gives me an excuse to shop. Haha!

schoolmates reunion

Meet up with old schoolmates last week. Some I have not seen for more than 5 years. It was great. Everyone's grown up with different lives. We had a lot of catching up to do. The friends that were there:
1) Pearlene - Have not seen her since she moved school which was 5-6 years ago. Finally saw her since she was working part-time at my dad's office. She talks more now and have gotten prettier.
2) Hydon- Have not seen him since Sec 4 which was 4 years ago. He's still in NS. Gotten quieter, he barely spoke during the outing.
3) Riz - Always try to meet up with him every time I come back to Singapore. Still funny as ever.
4) Mel - Meet her when I came back from Christmas Break. Life of the group. You can always hear her laughters.
5) Joel - Have not seen him since I saw him once in Jurong Church 2-3 years ago. He is a budding designer. I'm really proud of him. He is coming out with his own brand. He is loving what he is doing.
6) Zi Yuan - Have not seen her since end of secondary school. She's now a nurse working with schoolchildren. So she had lots of cute and also gruesome stories to tell.

I'm glad we were able to meet up. It was great seeing everyone after so long. When will it happen again?

I was watching Miss Universe just now and this year it's held in Bahamas. Atlantis resort in Bahamas is one of my dream destinations. It has a tall outdoor slide and indoor one where you go through an aquarium. Look the picture above!!! I really want to go there! Looks like so much fun.

My first week in Singapore was good. Meet up with some friends. Went to thomson chinese church last saturday and was able to see some teachers and friends I haven't seen in a while. My grandparents came from Indonesia to visit us since I don't think I have time to go back there. So, I have been going to their house to eat and talk to them. They are getting older, walking slower. But they are still as sweet to each other. How cute!

1 week and 2 days till the end of the summer session at Rosario Beach Marine Laboratory. There are keys to be written, lab finals to study for, research projects, oral presentation to do. It's overwhelming! I know I can do it, or at least I know I have to do it.
I'm somehow not looking forward to going home. Too many questions will be asked; I like being left alone. I rather they not pay attention to me, but every time they play the comparison game. Aren't they bored of it by now?
Anyway....
Last Saturday went hiking to Mt Sauk, it was an intense physical challenge for me. Think 27 switchbacks, hot weather and plenty of gigantic bugs. I gave up a couple of times but two sweet patient girls, Lindsay and Manja, waited and encourged me. The beautiful wildflowers and snow made it worth it.

Halfway done with Rosario summer session. It has been busy and tiring. So many things to do during the weekday and so much empty time during the weekend. Thinking whether I should go back to Singapore after the summer session. Somehow, I don't want to go because it is a waste of money and travel time. I will only be there for 3 weeks and then I need to come back to the States. But I already confirmed my flight back to SG.

Done with my second week at Rosario beach. We had 4th of july celebration starting last night. There was so much activities which I won't bore you with the details. But I did sprain my left ankle while playing Capture The Flag. For those of you that do not know, it is a game where two opposing teams try to obtain the opposing team's flag. So it is basically like hide-and-seek and tag. It was the first time I played, so I was rather excited. We started playing at 10 at night. I was chasing after "Big Ron" when I tripped and twisted my ankle. I was so mad because he was within reach.
Anyway, I cannot wait to be home because almost everyone is there. I'm so jealous, they get to enjoy.
Hope my ankle will be well by tomorrow!

Hawaii Trip

I'm sitting on the dining room table in my beachfront cabin and hearing the crashes of the wondrous waves. Sunset is on the horizon and the skies are in all shades of pink and blue. This is my third evening at Rosario marine station for my summer classes. I am taking Marine Invertebrates and Marine Phycology. It has been fun but tiring. Classes from 8 in the morning till 12 noon and then more classes from 1-5 pm.
Anyway, the trip to Hawaii was so much fun. I really glad I went. There were 8 girls altogether. We did so much stuff - canoeing, luau, surfing, snorkeling, mopedding, hiking, shopping, sailing, eating, swimming and many more. I uploaded some pictures on facebook already. So check it out if you have not.

The field trip with Natural History of Vertebrates class to Malheur National Wildlife Park was so much fun! There was lots of birding and running around after reptiles such as northern leopard lizard and western terrestial rattlesnake. Everyone was just up for laughs.
There was no shower place so I did not have a proper shower for 3 days!! Tried taking a shower in the cold and murky river but it was freezing cold.
It was so hot there and we were out in the sun the whole day without shade. Now, my arms are tanned but my face is a little burned.
I have so much to do till thursday.
I have a DB exam, Senior Seminar presentation and taxanomy quiz all on thursday! Wish me lots of luck! I need it.

Last week was hectic with tons of quizzes and tests. Barely managed to survive till friday. I had to go back into lab on friday afternoon because I told Dr. Lindsey whom I call "DL" that I was coming back to do Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) on friday. Ended up being in the lab until about 4pm to help him. After that, went out to eat with a bunch of friends and just hang out playing poker till 2am. It was so much fun!!
Saturday went to tri-cities to send off Natalie. I can't believe it's been 6 weeks since she's been in Walla Walla. Anyway, we rushed to get food at PF Chang and back to the airport. Later on that night, went to the afterglow balloon stampede. Let me explain a little about the afterglow. The fire in the hot-air balloons lighted up the whole stadium, and there were fireworks afterwards. Sunday has my Major Field Test Biology. It was not too bad. I'm leaving for a field trip with a class early thursday morning. We're not going to have any running water or electricity. Only shower is an ice-cold river. Wish me luck! I really am going to "rough" it out.

Finally got a haircut after more than 4 months. I know it looks the same as before, but I feel so much better. My hair feels "lighter".

Asian club had a joint event with history club this past saturday. It was supposed to be a bbq at kiwanis park but it rained. So we had to move it to the SAC, and bbq outside. I was in-charge of the food so I went shopping with the boys on friday afternoon for food and then prepared it for marinade. There was so much food! Since none of us actually know how to make a fire, it took us so long to get it started on saturday. The fire got so hot after that we had to keep stepping away from it ever so often. After that, the sky suddenly cleared and there was sunshine. That was when the water fight begun. It was crazy. Josh started shooting water at me, so I went to get more water guns. Everybody got wet soon after that. People even used empty juice bottles and filled it up with water. It was so much fun though!Went shopping with the girls to tri-cities after that. I got 2 dresses which I do not know where I am going to where it to. One is purple and the other one is a white. I love it though.

palouse falls part 2

The weekend started early last week. Thursday had a late dinner with the samoans, spencer, rj, nat, angie, ona. It was so much fun! Just talking and enjoying good food. I had no class on friday and only had chapel. Had to leave early to set-up for asian club event so I did not get to see DL's slide that I made. Anyway, went on a camping trip to palouse fall with CABL. We arrived there close to sunset, and had to set-up the humagonous tent right away. Everyone at the camp site was staring at us. It got cold at night when we were sleeping in the tents. My feet were extremely cold and I could not sleep. Went hiking around palouse falls and then we climbed up to the top because some of us did not want to walk back up. I climbed up those rocks 3 years ago but this time it was more intense because the rocks were falling off and the guys were unsure of how to help us. Only brandon was capable of climbing the rocks as if they were flat road he was walking on. But we all did finally make it up safely. However, we took longer time to get up then Angie and Jay whom walked up. Haha! But it was fun, a sense of accomplishment.

Friday had jap/korean dinner with sara, hiroshi, chuck, jeremy. We had steamed egg, fried tofu, kimchi, japanese pancakes and rice. It was scrumptious!
We had potluck at Ona's house after church on Saturday. Once again, there was lots of food. On the menu was: stir-fry chinese cabbage, taco salad, fried chicken wings, stir-fry cabbage with corned beef, brownies and ice-cream.
Superchick ( a Christian punk-rock band) concert at WWCC dome later on that night. There was way less people than I expected, but still fun. There was some people doing some crazy dance moves and it was hilarious to watch them.

This week was horrible! I had a taxanomy quiz in natural history of vertebrates (NHV) class on Tuesday and systematic botany test on Wednesday.
Today, I had a visual quiz in NHV class and another quiz for developmental biology (DB). I was so exhausted after the DB pre-lecture lab that I decided not to go to the lab.
Asian club had officers' meeting just now and we talked a great deal about upcoming events, I'm especially excited about the bbq with history which will happen next month. I am in-charge of the food. Yeeess! Bulgogi beef here I come.. yum yum!!

spring break 2009

Drove down to cali on thurs morning and arrived in riverside around 2am friday morning. Went to corona del mar on saturday night and hanged out with friends. Sunday was the day papa, mama and maydina arrived. Only ko tatan and ko jeff picked them up, mook and i stayed at home to clean up the place. Busy helping maydina with her registration and shopping for dorm supplied on mon, tues and wednesday. Because papa and mama have not met winda, rum and leo. We all had lunch on thursday with a bunch of people at victoria's garden. It was great!! Lucille's had such huge portion. Friday went to LA to visit Dr Watson& family and also get to see Aryton. Saturday afternoon left for Walla Walla.
Oh yah, Tania is back in Walla Walla..

But I still have to finish up lab stuff and write a manuscript for molecular biology techniques. Then, off to california for spring break. I can't wait to just hang out with people and have fun.

this past weekend was pretty good.. went to watch watchmen on friday.. it was an alright movie.. then, went to the boys' house to hang out for a bit.. saturday wanted to do the bbq at the park but turns out it was too windy.. so we went back to the boys' house to do the bbq.. just hanged out there then went home.. just chill with people afterwards.. it's a good weekend even didn't do anything much..
worry about acceptance to university with the program i want.. *sigh*

SELFISH

Just realize how selfish humans can be. We only find others when we want or need something from them. It is easier to forget about good deeds that have been done to us than the bad experiences we had to confront them about. I get frustrated when I expect friends to do the same thing I would do to them but they don't. I guess it is too much to ask from people. I think I should learn to expect less from others. We are only helpless human beings after all.

i'm obsessed with beauty products for the past few days.. i've been watching youtube product reviews.. and reading reviews on sephora and makeupalley.. i like trying out new stuff!! i wish i was a beauty editor and get tons of free stuff!
anyway, i ordered free samples from everyday minerals - 3 foundations, 1 concealer and 1 blush... i had to only pay for shipping which was like $3.. such a great deal..
apart from that, my mood have been a little too sensitive... i don't why really.. just been overthinking everything.. it's probably from the stress that the quarter is coming to an end soon and the feeling that there is so much more to accomplish.. it's just one of those dark days...

4-day weekend

this past weekend was great.. i had so much fun! was so much better than i had expected it to be.. i thought there will be segregation.. we didn't do anything much in seattle.. just hanged out in julie's house and ate alot of home-cooked food.. the boys and i came back to walla walla on sunday night.. been spending most of my time in molecular bio tech.. in the last 2 days, i have spent more than 17 hours.. it's insane!! especially since i did not get the right result.. *sigh* im hoping for friday to come soon.. i want to just have fun!

Thursday I skipped step aerobics class before was feeling really sick and lazy. Recovering from a heavy cold, spent all of friday sleeping in which helped alot.
Saturday went to church then to chuck and hiroshi's house for a lunch thing. It was fun. Just a bunch of us talking and playing cards. Went to asian club game night afterwards. Felt a little out of place there, I don't know why.
Spent time in lab today. Now, I am just lying on my bed trying to study for another philosophy of origin quiz.

Friday afternoon helped set up for the chinese new year event that was the day after. Went to eat in Hong's Garden afterwards. Played monopoly with a few people at night in julie's house. Saturday was the day, the chinese new year get-together was great. I has so much food and fun! Sunday spent some time in lab because I did not do much last week. As of tuesday, realised that the gene (VatD) I was working with has some problems. So, dr lindsey came up with an idea for me to some other experiment. I am going to put a mutant gene with a certain antibiotic resistant in a dictysilium gene and see how it affects the function of the gene. So, I'm going to do different things than other people, which is exciting. Makes me feel special!!
Now is Wednesday night and I'm trying to study for philosophy of origin quiz. Had a dinner/tea thing with Michael and his friends just now. It was kinda of awkward at first because I didn't know any of them. But things got more comfortable by the minute. Only thing was they were talking about their high school and I did not have a clue what they were talking about. Anyway, off to studying.

This week was a little tense because of genetics test on thursday. The test was alright, could have gone better. Did not go in for molecular bio technique lab this week. Hehe! I didn't spend that much time for this lab, and I guess Dr. Lindsey noticed because he asked me that day whether I have spent 10 hours in lab.
Anyway, thursday was good day. Had dinner with michael after not hanging out with him for such a long time. I got to see the men's student dean apartment. Then we went to the focus group about our university together. My eyes were opened from newfound information during the focus group meeting. It was a closed door session with only about 10 people. There were some frustrating discoveries but there was also strings of hope.
This week has been pretty good. Off to enjoy my weekend.

Going into my 3rd quarter of winter quarter. Things have been hectic but somewhat different. I was in molecular bio techniques lab for more than 12 hours last week. When Gary, my genetics lab partner, asked me, "So what do you do for fun?" I had to think for a while because I forgot the last thing I did for fun. After thinking for some time, I realized I had no life. Either I am in classes, teaching labs, or working on research. I was determined after that that I will have fun this past weekend because a few of my close friends will be leaving for good. It's sad but I guess that's how life is. True to what I had hoped for, I did hang out with people this weekend. Went to asian club buffet friday then vespers. Next, to the bowling alley for danny's birthday and then to delbert's house for a surprise party. Saturday helped angie cook for aswwu thank you party. Went to hang out with onz,rocky and nina afterwards. Basketball game and charles' surprise birthday party next. It was so much fun to hang out with people. It's my last year here so I have to make the most of it. Cheers!

It's friday and I'm done with the first week of winter quarter. I arrived in WW on tuesday afternoon and rushed off to molecular biology techniques lab. When I got there, everyone started already so I was confused. I was supposed to wake up early on wednesday to finish up the rest of that lab but I turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. Thankfully, I did wake up in time for my only class. I TA(teacher's assistant) for general chemistry lab that day too. I thought we were just checking people in but we were actually doing a full lab. Luckily, it was not too bad. Thursday was the most busiest day. I woke up at 5:30 am and was still awake till 1am the next day. I was in classes, genetic labs, molecular bio techniques labs and meeting. Jay and I were in rigby till late, we got bored and used our chairs to race down the halls. It was fun but it will be embarrassing if people saw us. Today(Friday) was spent in lab too. I'm a slave to labs. This is a going to be a long quarter.

I slammed my left middle finger on a heavy wooden sliding door. It was painful but I thought there was not going to be that bad. But I saw blood oozing out and panicked. I ran to akong's bathroom and turned on the tap. When the water ran, more blood also ran. So I grabbed tissue to cover it and put pressure. It was so painful that I had to sit on the bathroom floor. Then, maydina came in and I told her to call Mama. Everyone came it after that, I felt cold sweat on my face. I felt like almost fainting. Quickly walked to the car to go to the ER. The doctors found there was fracture on the tip of thr finger. He had to remove my nail and fix the nailbed, and also stitched the open wounds. The procedure was done at 12 midnight. What a way to bring in the new year. The doctor called me Cinderella.

Back home in singapore for 2 days already. Just been hanging out with family. Went out to eat at SushiTei with the extended family last night. There was so many people in the restaurant but with my convincing way we did managed to get seats. Haha! It is good to be with family.

It's -17 degrees Celsius. Numbing cold!!! This is the coldest Walla Walla have been in the 3.5 years I've been here. With such freezing weather, I feel like lying in all day and just watching tv shows. I can't wait to go home to warm, humid weather. A drastic change for sure!

Yesterday, before we left the warm confines of Foreman Hall to go watch the Nutcracker. It was snowing heavily and the roads were icy. But we made it there safely even though we were late.

I'm officially 20
Last week was pretty short. Tuesday in chapel the senior class officers were introduced in chapel by the school president, Dr McVay.
Wednesday - we had senior class officer meeting which turned out productive. But we still need to talk about social events.
Thursday turned out to be a good surprise. It was an unexpected pre-birthday gift. I had so much fun that day. I could not imagine having an enjoyable time with a complete stranger. I learned to shot arrows. I was really bad at first because I have weak hand strength. But after the 4th try, with some help from him, I managed to shoot the target. I was pretty satisfied with myself!
I want to go do it again but he is going to be gone soon. Tragic!
Friday was my birthday which was nothing special. It felt like any other day. Just went out to eat with a bunch of friends and then played card games.

It's the last few hours of thanksgiving break. I'm just waiting for my clothes in the dryer now.

Watched twilight last friday and I was really disappointed with the director and the lead actress. They did not play up the emotions like the book, and they ruined my favorite meadow scene.
Went to spokane on monday with ko tatan and chuck to take GMAT. I did better than I had hoped for the GMAT which was surprising because I came out more than half an hour early. Anyway, came back on tuesday night and then went straight to work. The rest of the week was filled with work, thanksgiving lunch & dinner, hanging out with friends and other people.
It has been a pretty good thanksgiving break except for the part where I did not as much sleep as I had hoped. I'm actually sleep deprived because of the odd work schedule.

A few more days before I turn the big 2-0! I feel old somehow.

I am overwhelmed by all the tests and assignments, and also the upcoming GMAT. I wanted to prepare for GMAT this week but I did not even have any time. It's been a shitty week. Financial management test on monday and then I had to study for cell bio test and ecological physiology test that was today. So much stuff to put into my little head. Today after both tests, I had to go job-shadow someone because I am working front desk during Thanksgiving break. Urggghh!! Waste of my time, really.
Friday, I still have a freaking sociology quiz and mini-research paper. I think my professors are just trying to kill me.. I can literally feel myself breaking apart.
